This week has been awesome!!
On Wednesday we got to watch “Meet the Mormons!” at our Zone Conference! It was supper good. Y’all need to go watch it if you havent seen it. We have cool ward members that will wait for you to get out of a meeting an hour and a half late…Ooops!
Thursday was probably one of the greatest days Ive had in a while! Thursday mornings are set apart for our planning for the up coming week, but this time was a little different. We’ve been trying to get in contact with the Townley family for a while now, every time we stop by the father is just heading out to pick up his wife/drop his kids off/shopping/etc. Thursday is his only day off from work. We felt prompted to try to go see them in the morning because we hadn’t tried that due to planning. To our surprise he was at home waiting for someone to come by in an hour so we got to answer his questions on the state of those who commit suicides, and more about the spirit world. When we answered them – it was what he believed, but everyone told him differently. We talked to him about regular lessons and he said he wants to invite us over for dinner with our ward mission leaders family (who theyve become friends with). Miracles!
Then when we came back home from speaking with him, I had received a letter! Which made me do the missionary victory dance! just kidding, missionaries done do missionary dances….. but I do!
Immediately after the mailbox, we got a call from the Zone Leaders saying, “Y’all get a car for a while! Go to Flower Mound to pick it up!” Elder Reed just shakes his head like, “Whatever…” He didn’t believe it until they gave us the address of where to pick it up haha WE DRIVE A CAR!! The Zone Leaders are the only Elders in our Zone that have a car. Turns out the Spanish sisters are in the process of getting certified to drive a mission vehicle, so since we have the next biggest area in the Zone, we get to use their car for a couple weeks!
Friday we had to drive back to Flower Mound to go to a choir practice (The stake president asked us to sing with the youth for the saturday night session of Stake Conference). The day we got the car, Elder Reeds GPS died…So we had a member print us out directions on how to get there, but she didn’t give us the map to the directions, so eventually we got confused and had to stop for directions…Weird right? who does that anymore! We asked a mailman and he looked at me as if I was the dumbest thing ever! He was like, “Y’all dont have google maps?!” “Nope!” “Y’all dont have a smart phone?!” No sir, cant you see the printed label on my shirt that says, “Jesus Christ”? He had no Google Maps. Why should I? haha Jk, google maps would’ve been nice.
So we went to teach a former investigator, and when we walked inside, we met her baptist pastor! He sat us down and asked a lot of questions, “I had a mormon buddy growing up. He was what we would call, ORTHODOX. No milk! They would drink the powdered stuff!” We cut him off right there and said it was probably because of price, not because they don’t drink milk….hahah he was way too friendly to be a baptist preacher speakin to 2 LDS missionaries. Sure enough, he says, “Hold on, Ill be right back.” He then brought in a cross half the size of him and said, “We carry this around with us everywhere we go!” starts off on some sermon type thing and doesn’t really let us talk. He also talked about how persecuted his group was and that hes sure we have never had to deal with it. Say Wha? We laughed HARD! He apparently doesn’t know church history! He talked us till we had to go, saying we could share our message with him on Sunday.
On the way to Saturday Stake Conference, We went to Lewisville to pick up our district leader and comp. Turns out the Spanish sisters also live in the same complex and were waiting outside for their ride to take them to Conference. We pulled up and said, “Sorry for stealing your car!” Their mouths both dropped and they were dumbfounded. (They….Had no clue…) “That’s our car??….That’s our car!!” They just knew it was taken from them for a while, they didn’t know where it went… Oops.
In Stake Conference We as missionaries I had the opportunity to share my experiences with working with members. I shared Sister Eldredge’s Story where she was prompted to invite Shelby to a lesson and how well it worked out. During the meeting, Elder Hendrix in my Zone got a text saying that because of the experience that I shared, he texted his friend and Elder Hendrix should have someone to teach tonight! So there’s my shout out to Sis. Eldredge! 😀
Sunday we taught the Pastor Lesson one and he looks me in the eye ans says, “You’re very knowledgeable! You know what you’re talking about.” And at a different time, “You’re very mature for your age.” That felt really cool coming from a Baptist Pastor in the Bible Belt! That never happens!
Well I hope people will still want to read my emails after this one…haha sorry!
Love y’all!
