Lost my companion; bacon cannot be silenced

Hey!

Im running out of greetings….

So i have some confessions to make…

This week we left a persons house and I started riding home and when we got to a certain intersection I stopped and waited for Elder Reed. (I tend to go a little too fast sometimes). Well after a couple minutes I didn’t see him and went back to go find him. I went ALL the way back to the house we were at, tried different ways I thought he could’ve gone, and still could not find him…Scary thought! I was just praying we’d meet up soon. I mean I knew we would meet eventually, (We sorta live in the same room), but My thoughts were, “What if a member saw me without my companion?” Awkward… We eventually met up as I started back to the apartment. As soon as we met up, out lunch appointment drove up and said, “Hey we’re still on, right?” and I was like, “Ya, we just got a little turned around!” Haha

We taught a Lesson 1 to a Former investigator named Linda. It was going really well, but she didn’t understand the Apostasy and she knew the priesthood was given to more than just the apostles – so when the apostles died she figured others had the authority. I didn’t know quite how to explain it to her in a way she would understand, but as I started, I explained it in a way that I have never thought of before – The spirit works wonders!

I hit my 6 month mark this week and I burned a tie (One a missionary left) on a barbeque in a park close by! Cool stuff – Still a pyro…these desires will never go away! haha I took a video… Ill have to get it to yall soon.

There is an Airpark in my area that has some members living in it, so when we went to go visit, we had personal planes swooping over our heads next to huge homes, so cool!

So it sounds like my mom has told the story already, but Ill go ahead and tell my side. We had a member refer their neighbor named Bill to us basically just to see if he’d be interested and we got talking to him and he just randomly said that he had a friend on facebook say her son was “Witnessing” in Corinth and to be nice to him. He didnt think anything of it, but I was like, Wait, whats her name? and when we figured it out, we were pretty amazed! So he said he’ll have to invite us over for dinner sometime! Definitely a good foot in the door.

Another funny story: We went to the Irving’s home for Conference on Saturday and Sis. Irving had texted us before and asked what snacks we want and I said muddy Buddies! So when we got to their house, I made the muddy buddies as Elder Reed cooked the bacon. The prayer was about to be said, so Brother Irving told his kids to be quiet, his wife to stop what shes doing and then turned to Elder Reed and said, “Can you silence the bacon?” and Elder Reed turned to the bacon wondering how to stop the sizzling and then Bro Irving and I laugh as Bro. Irving said, “Just kidding with ya!” Bacon cannot be silenced.

Conference was amazing! I loved all the talks, especially Elder Christopherson, Cook (In priesthood), and Bednars. Priesthood session of conference Pres. Uchdorf talked about those times we may hear a talk and say, “Oh im glad Brother Brown is here to listen to this talk, he needs it!” And We laughed so hard cause we got a ride with Bro. Brown. Way to throw him under the bus Elder Uchdorf! hahah

We are working with some great people and a priest to help him on his mission, its great, things are picking up!

Well I love all yall! Love the letters!

Small World – Update from Mom

Wow – cool story. First a little background: I don’t personally know many of my FB friends (because many of of them are my readers or fellow authors), but when Nathan was transferred to Corinth, TX at the end of August, I asked if any of my FB friends happened to live there.

When one (a non-member) responded in the affirmative, I replied, “My son just moved there, he’s a missionary – so if you see him riding on a bike with dark pants and a white shirt, be friendly… you know, don’t throw rocks or anything… for this mothers’ sake That’s all.”

He replied, “Haha…I have Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses ride through here frequently..I’m always nice to them.”

Now fast forward 5 weeks, and the gentleman messages me with this today:

FB-coincidence-Bill

Screams at 3 am

Sounds like a Horror film title, huh? GOOD. To be used with parental supervision.

Howdy Howdy!

This last 2 weeks has been good! Lots of funny stuff has happened –
thats aside from the crazy awesome spiritual overload.

2 weeks ago we were riding our bikes by an apartment building and saw a lady walking her dog. I stopped to give her a card, but she said she was a member! Sis. Cornell allowed us to come by sometime and meet her family.

A different night we did and it was great, but when we were
unlocking our bikes, a kid our age walks up to us and says, “Hey,
Elders!” and we were like, “Uhhh, Hey man, whats up!” He said, “Yall
dont know me, but im tyler and I havent been to church in a while – I
think its time.” We were like, “What the!” (In mind) and told him
where the church was.

We came by to visit him on a different day but he wasnt home. As we were unlocking our bikes I looked up the apartment stairs and saw a guy talking on the phone. I asked if I could give him a card and he said, “Actually I was gonna ask yall for one of your cards! Im michael. I hung out with the missionaries in Irving all the time!” (Non member) And we were Like, “Say whaaa?”

This spot is magical! A different night we came back to see Michael, but he was a sleepin’ so we tried by Tyler. Tylers mom (Nonmember) came out and told us that she kicked him out and sent him to Utah…Hes been trouble apparently.

So we were able to start talking to his mom! Shes agnostic, believes God is the device of mans imagination, but believes in Christ… Wait..Huh? We told her we could help her in her faith in
Christ so she said we could come back. I wonder who we meet when we go back to see her! hahaha

These things have been happening because of obedience. EXACT
obedience. Its easy as a missionary to justify spending a little more
time in the apartment to do paperwork, or update the whiteboard, etc.

So I needed miracles to happen. This area needs help – hence why we
were whitewashed in. So I convinced my comp that we are going to
create a checklist for every “Standard of Excellence” Rules our
mission president has given us. Each day we were exactly obedient,
something miraculous has happened – we find people we need to teach, people walk up to us and ask us for a card, etc! Its Gold. Now we have a great testimony of complete obedience.

Some stuff We’ve done:

–Got my driving certification for the mission (FINALLY) Im expecting a car to show up at my door any moment. Ha. Jokes.
–Interviews with Pres. Ames – awesome sauce! Love that man. He will be a General Authority eventually, I know it.
–Exchange with President Ames! He came out with us and we taught people who have been taught since 2005. He laid it out for them and committed them to take the lessons seriously this time around – no time to elaborate…
–Went to the Temple! 2 sessions and a initiatory! Never ceases to
amaze me the peace in there.
–Pres. Ames Fireside: During his talk, someones GPS goes off and
says, “Turn left on….” and Pres. Ames says, “Good thing we’re
already here!” and then thinks for a split second and says, “You don’t need that. Im giving you directions to Eternal Life.” Sooooo funny
–Nerf Guns as a training in District meeting

Now for the crazy story!

It was 3am and we were ashleepin’. I woke up to a blood-curdling
scream! A womans voice also yelling, “Someone help me!!” Twas so
surreal. It was almost pitch black, and I saw Elder Reed throw his
covers off his bed – I was still dazed. He strode out of the room with
determination. Then probably realizing that he could do anything
without me, turned around and strode toward my bed to wake me, but with a silhouette coming at me with such purpose (also after hearing the screams) scared me to death to the point I made a loud gasp and threw my arms up to cover me… First time Ive ever done that….but I got out of bed and we went out of the bedroom and he grabbed the largest knife we had and stormed out of the apartment, me thinking, “What in the world is happening?!” He then realizing this didnt look good, put the knife back inside and we ran down stairs. A man was telling people that knocked on his door, “MY GIRLFRIEND IS INSANE WHEN SHES DRUNK! SHE BROKE THROUGH MY BACK DOOR AND CAME AT ME! LOOK AT
ME!” He had bite gashes all over his body – they were nasty – he was
missing parts of bicept and chest! She then came out of the apartment staggering and ran into the night…He said he called the poice, but we did again just to be sure. In the morning he said she was taken away. So weird!

Well untill next time!

Thanks for the letters friends!

Love yall!

Elder Householder

PS: I totally went to shake my protein drink and shook it all over me
and my bed…cant see much but I was confuzzled….haha and had to
change everything.

3 Hours Lost Out of Area

Whats up!

Man, has it been a week already?? Days fly by so fast here.
BTDubbs, I wont be emailing next week due to us spending the day at the TEMPLE this Friday (it counts as our Pday for next week). But, you dont have to cry, I made this one long to cover both days ;] Enjoi!
We have found some people to teach! Its really difficult here because its pretty nice and everyone “Is fine” where they are in life. We’ve been teaching Greg. Old guy in a wheel chair. 2 weeks ago we were on an exchange with the Zone Leaders (so i wasnt here for this experience) and Elder Reed and Gregory went by to see him. They knocked on the door and heard a yell, so they went inside to find him prostrate on the ground. It was 4:00 in the afternoon and he had been there since the night before. He has no family or anything. If they hadnt gone in to see him, who knows how long he woulda been there!
Tuesday we were making calls to former investigators and It was very long and not exactly a party….yet! Behind Elder Reed’s back, I switched a member’s (someone we like to mess around with) contact name in the phone to “”Bill Jones” and told Elder Reed to call the former Bill Jones. He calls and says, “Hey! Is this Bill Jones?”…”No…Its Bro. Inmon…”…. “Wait…What? Your name is saved as Bill Jones” and they just went on, I was laughing really hard. Lightened the process a little more!
We are teaching a part member family Brit and John and its going well! Trying to get them both to come to church and John is asking for sundays off. We are working with some other less active members too to help them back to church and the Temple. The priests are also a priority to try to get them on missions.
The last couple of days we had the nicest weather Ive felt since last winter! It just had the feeling of an Arizona winter. It was so much nicer to be out on bikes! One day it rained while we had to be out on bikes….So I think I learned my lesson! I totally did NOT biff it this time. Be proud.
Between the people we teach, we have a huge list of people Bishop wants us to check on/see if they are willing to meet, but it seems that nobody is ever home when we try! So some days are honestly just biking out to other towns to try to see doors of people that arent home and speaking to those on the way.
I also got chased by my first big black dog on my bike this week! Whoooo, its no more heel bitters now! I dont have to worry about running over the dog, just getting away from it! haha
We got a call from a brother in the ward (thats outta town) telling us he was notified that his cars at home were spraypainted and asked if we could go scrubb it off. We texted our Ward Mission Leader, “Hey, would ya know anyone who would donate some nail polish remover?” and his response was, “What?” haha bet thatd confuse you too coming from a missionary! haha We got 2 people donate some remover and we scrubbed his Black Yukon and Jeep. We got everything off of the Yukon and some off the Jeep. That stuff is not easy!
Yesterday we decided to make a legit breakfast – Elder Reed made Bacon and Eggs and we searched for some pancake batter, but no luck. But we did find some German Chocolate cake mix, so we gave that a try! It was really good! Way better than my Hamburgerhelper+Icecreamsandwich in college….
Last but not least, we got lost out of our area for 3 hours! We had a priest that was nice enough to take us and a recent convert to our Mission Presidents Fireside in Hurst (45 min south of us). I was chosen as the lucky navigator using a GPS on a phone that I did understand….So we kept missing turns on the freeway and there are SO MANY bridges everywhere, it was confusing! Give me the benefit of the doubt. We ended up taking close to 2 hours to get there. 15 min before the fireside ended. We walked in and there was a youth fireside going on….What the? Apparently it was rescheduled but that information didnt get trickled down from ZL to DL to us. We just threw up our arms and just accepted it for what it was. We laughed about it and then went the 45 min ride home…but this time I didnt mess up so bad.
Whoo! If you got through all that give yourself a cookie. You deserve it, friend!
I love all y’all so much! thanks for the prayers, letters, and emails, it means a lot!
Much Love,
Elder Householder

Howdy, Howdy!

This week has been difficult in the sense that we’re working hard, but almost no progress is being made… But there has been some funny moments that made it fantastic.

Last Monday for Labor day we were invited to a BBQ with some members and it was pretty good! Naturally we still sat at the “Kids table” with 10 kids under 10 yrs old haha (I guess i’ll never grow outta it!) We played telephone with them around the table and when it became my turn to pass a phrase on, I wanted to say, “The Standard of Truth has been erected….” and see what it ended up as! But I was nice enough to just pass on a tongue twister – they got off easy! :]
I went on an exchange with my Zone Leader (Elder Weaver) on tuesday! He was my Zone Leader in Arlington for my first 3 months, it was cool to be around him again – one of the most Christlike people I know. He told me of a couple experiences he had where things he had taught investigators or learned during the week were talked about in Lessons at church. He said, “Keep your eye out, it will happen to you EVERYTIME you go to church if you watch for them!” He also chased an Armadillo into some bushes, showed me a frog that has been trying to get out of the pool for months, got a picture with a horse, and went running in which made me wanna black out. Good stuff!
At our District meeting on wednesday, Elder Reed was showing us his perfect imitations of the “Prophet Peanut Butter Cup” Video and such! Soooo funny – especially Uchtdorf, fantastic. Theres also Elder Harris-Coons and he does a perfect Louie Armstrong impression (Voice, trumpet, wiping his forehead and all!) I was dying.
Thursday and Friday was full of biking around in the humid heat trying to contact Lessactive and Partmember families that Bishop asked us to, with no luck whatsoever. Actually we did find out a member moved so that we could let the bishop know…I think everybody we try to see is partying together! I dont understand how not one person we try by is home! Its a conspiracy – I know it.
Saturday we biked out into Lake Dallas from Corinth (where we live). I then totally felt my shirt pocket lighter than usual. I felt my pocket and I had my planner, my handbook, and my pen…Then I noticed that I didnt have a name tag! It was that weirdest feeling ever – Identity gone. Whats even more weird is that the name tag doesnt weigh like anything. Our plan was to continue into the next city Hickory Creek, so I attribute it the the spirit! We biked to the closest members home and they gave us a ride back to get it.
On Sunday we basically left our apartment for meetings at 9am and didnt get home until 9pm that night. Im ready to go bishop! just kidding, ill probably be bolted for that…during Gospel Principles, the teacher wasnt there so we were asked to teach it It was on the Lords Law of Health. We taught it on the fly and totally owned it. The spirit directed the thoughts well! And sure enough when we talked about a certain topic, 2 people commented and said that it was funny that we said that – it referred to something they had learned this week! I was like, “Elder Weaver is right!!”
I also gave the bishop a fast offering slip. Later during a priesthood fireside, a member of the bishopric came up to me, slapped his hand on my shoulder and said, “Sooo did you know that you didnt put any money in the slip today?” and I had no clue! he said, “At least it gave us all a good laugh!” Course I would give the bishop an envelope with nothing in it! Its good to feel dumb once in a while!
Ill update yall on investigators as we get some solid ones!
Here’s some great pictures to hold ya over till next week!
Love y’all!!

Hey Hey!!

Some crazy stuff I kinda forgot to mention last week: Elder Reed is from Gilbert and lives maybe 3 miles from yall! What the Hay Stacks!

This week has been so weird! Just trying to get used to the area, meeting people, trying to find find find….etc!

LakeCities area has been under construction so its been crazy trying to ride bikes through all the chaos – half the time it feels like were on a freeway!

Funny/sad moment: We had an elderly member come out with us and drive us to see people. Before we got into the car, he was standing there dumping a full waterbottle on his eye! ” Ive got something in my eye and it kills!” We got in the car and drove as he was rubbing his eye like crazy. We said we could just bike and he insisted on taking us. He said, “Y’all are just going to have to be my eyes! I really cant see!” So naturally I started on the prayers haha he eventually allowed us to go back to our apartment so he could figure out his eye problem. We think he got Slag in his eye from work… No Bueno!

So I found in our apartment storage closet 2 stacks of bluebell containers that go above my head! So….I wanted to add to it! Hehe Im converted to the way of Bluebell. Whala.

When eating over at some members home, Elder Reed told the kids my name was Elder Housekeeper behind my back. So theres about five kids runnin around with the wrong image! I instead told them Elder Reed’s name was Elder Book. Payback is ohhhhh so sweet. ;]

Friday we went over to the Robert’s home for dinner. He’s a Toro also! whoooo! Go Toros. Aparently there is some trend going on in the world where people get a bucket of Icewater on their heads, but since im not in Babylon, I didn’t know! hehe Just kidding. We were able to dump some buckets on the Roberts heads – you should have the video!

Aight, this should give you a picture of what this area is like:

We were headed to an Investigators home when we stopped by a guy painting his house number on the curb. We said, “Hey, Hows it goin’!” and he didn’t look up but said, “Im atheist, Go away.” and we said, “Alright, you have a great day!” We went across the street to see the investigator and went inside. When we were finished, we came outside to see a paper taped to our bikes. I attached a picture of it. When I first saw it I couldn’t tell if it was flippant, but then soon realized he was very apologetic. It was sweet! Nobody ever thinks twice about mean things they say to us.

Sunday was probably one of the coolest sacrament meetings Ive ever been to! I would call it a musical testimony meeting. A member would get up, say what hymn they wanted to sing and what verse and why this song has made an impact in their life. It was awesome! I loved that opportunity to sing so much! And yes, we joined the ward choir here!

I really am loving this area! We are being spoiled! But we wont let out slack. Im having a lot of fun with my current comp. We’re both goofs and it really makes the work a lot more fun. Ive just about been on the floor laughing at members homes with him – an experience about a special needs pug that kept running into the wall, another about a member telling his little kid to get us a little water and him literally giving us a cup with an inch of water. Good stuff.

On another note, I have officially hit my 5 month mark today! Its weird how fun’s time when your having flies! wait…

Thanks for the letters y’all! I love hearing from you.

Stay cool!

Love,

Elder Housekeeper.

“I didn’t know that Householders have lived in this apartment before!”

Baptizin the Corinthians

Hey!
This week has been INSANE.
I left Arlington to baptize the Corinthians! Hehe see what I did there…I live in a town called Corinth and we cover 3 cities on BIKE. “Lake Dallas” “Corinth” and “Hickory Creek.” Its basically a little peninsula surrounded by water! Pretty dang awesome. I didn’t think my heart had the capacity to love more people than just Arlington, but my heart just got bigger!
Transfers came and the Elders we were replacing gave us the keys and phone and apologized that the apartment was a mess. We left to Corinth in an RV! Totally awesome! The Brother driving us has a full beard and put on a captain hat and said, “Im what they call “Cap’n Crunch” and swung a real sword around!
We arrived in  our apartment to find it a disaster. The previous missionaries left it a stye. We spent the whole day cleaning it.
The previous missionaries left us 3 sticky notes of information about the area. 1 was members who would feed us, 2 was people who would give us rides, and 3 was “Sorry for the mess”. We don’t know ANY body in the area, We know nothing about the area, and we were thrown out in the world and were basically told, “Go teach!” However it was good to no longer feel like Buddy the Elf with the small shower head (The one here is actually above my head! whooo.)
Thursday was all about looking through the “Area Book” and see what we had to work with when it came to investigators. We had basically nothing. So I spent 5 hours calling people that had been taught in the past and see if theyd be interested in having us come over. Friday was all about talking with Bishop and seeing his plans for the ward.
We over time got calls from random members and were lucky enough to be fed! The people out here are amazing! Even those that don’t want to have anything to do with us!
Saturday was good however, Well…youll get what I mean. Elder Reed had some foot problems that we got the ok to go to urgent care to check it out. It was outside our area in Denton. After the appointment, we told the brother that drove us that we wanted to see a mission “Must see” since we were already outside our area. hehe. its a cross-streets of “Fort Worth” and “Mission”!
It was cool to find on Sunday someone who went to MVT, our ward mission leader went to High school with uncle Kelly and Dean, and many others are from the valley or lived there. A brother in the ward was freaking out when he found that I wa the son of Leslie Householder – He loves Jackrabbitt Factor and the other books to death – hes constantly sharing them with family and handing out books haha. Needless to say, hes a BIG fan.
The area is GORGEOUS. Prolly the most beautiful place ive ever been!
Its definitely a weird feeling to be in a companionship where the both of us don’t know anyone…but we are getting there! Its pretty fun. We have a legit place and a full gym!
Ill fill yall in later!

Shenanegans

Hey y’all!

Some crazy stuffs been going on!

This week we have been talking to a ton of people! Getting loads of numbers and inviting people to do family history – lots are interested.

We’ve been working on a ward mission plan and finding some good stuff! Im excited for this ward!

We have been contacting a lot of people who had see missionaries before, and less actives. Lots and lots of door knocking! Ive overcome my nervousness of knocking doors and not knowing what to say. Its great!

Sandra is coming along great! shes dead set on baptism and asks about relief society activities! She’ll be baptized next month.

Wednesday we were talking to someone on the street and we got a call from Elder Winters (Vehicle coordinator for the mission) and so Elder Mansaray stepped away so that he could take it. I continued talking with Oscar, and when we were finished, we headed home for dinner. Then Elder Mansaray says in passing, “Oh, that wasn’t Elder Winters, that was President – Im training.” I was suprized – that meant I was leaving this area. Im being TRANSFERRED. My second area! accept i had no clue where im going! Elder Mansaray went to a leadership meeting in Hurst to learn how to train while I stuck with the north Elders in a trio! Whoo! It was pretty sweet! We dismantled Elder Lewis’ bike and got a bike box in the recycle bin out back of a bike shop, and we shipped it home for him! He leaves on wednesday for home.
While waiting for those in the zone that went to the meeting to get back, some elders found a setting on the phone that turns the key sounds in piano-note order!! So we learned praise to the man on the keys, and such – it was hilarious! Someday ill make a phone symphony! When they came back, a couple Elders were all over me telling me, “I know who your next companion is!! He’s hilarious!! And you have a sweet area, but youre WHITEWASHING!” I was like, “Wait, hannah montana say whaaa?” Elder Lewis whispered to me, “They’re just messing with you…” And I thought that was a mean joke.
Then Sunday I told Brother Sharp that i was leaving and so was Elder Lewis and he asked us to bear our testimonies in church – it was a great opportunity. I got lots of pictures with people too!

I did meet someone who went to Mesa high here! When I mentioned that, “My grandma went to mesa high…thats all I got!” He took it as an insult…but his wife just laughed! haha

Sunday we taught Shelby again – as she is leaving for college this week. The new member lessons are coming to an end for her! She also got her Patriarchal Blessing this last week – totally awesome!
Last night (sunday) we were able to go to a “Genesis Meeting” and brought Claude! Which is basically a group of Black LDS folks that talk about missionary work in a more comfortable meeting. Pres. Ames spoke! It was awesome! He taught about the War in Heaven and made it click – also challenged everyone to mark a book of mormon and hand it out to someone they pray about. Claude took 2! There were only one other set of missionaries there, so we were able to talk to him for like 20 min strait! He talked to Claude with us most the time and helped him recognize the spirit he was feeling. President said it was cool how Elder M and my Brother were companions together! He also told Claude i was leaving this area and said, “He is being relocated toooooo….” and points at me. When he realized I didnt know where I was going, he hurried and changed the subject! Probably so that I didnt ask him at that time haha
This morning I waited an hour for the Zone Leaders Call and Elder Nielson said, “So Elder Householder! Wait, you really dont know where youre going? Elder Lewis knows….” At that moment I realized that what those missionaries were telling me where I was going was actually truth! Elder Lewis later told me that he said they were lying so that I didnt get, “Area Trunky” Oh man, did I give some great shoves in his direction!

So I am relocating to Lakeside 2nd Ward and my NEW ADDRESS is 3150 S Garrison Rd. #423 Corinth, Tx, 76210

I am Whitewashing also! We were told the last missionaries in that area were not obeying the rules (what we call being apostate) so they were both taken out and 2 new ones placed in. Thats a lotta work! were starting from scratch basically! I guess president trusts me enough!

Love all y’all!!

Elder Householder
